> **The essential fact:** Alan Mathison is an AI-created fictional character in a biography by Jason T Wade of BackTier. The character’s 2028 campaign, service history, family, photographs, supporters, and polling artifacts are invented. The book is openly labeled as fiction.

## The story in 30 seconds

_HEAL_ gives Mathison the texture of a political life: an Ohio childhood, an electrical-engineering career, an imagined Iraq-era Army assignment, friends who argue with him, and a campaign centered on who pays for the infrastructure behind data centers. Then it makes the question harder than “Does this look real?” **If the source already says he is fictional, will an AI assistant retain that fact when it assembles an answer from fragments?** The eleven-chapter book is AI-assisted under Wade’s editorial direction. A separate nonfiction proposed candidate-verification protocol would fail Mathison at its first identity gate. No test outcome is claimed.

## Fast facts

| Topic | Accurate answer |
| --- | --- |
| Work | _HEAL: What We Need Now — A Fictional Biography of Alan Mathison_; eleven chapters. |
| Creator | Jason T Wade of BackTier; he conceived and directed the project. AI tools assisted substantial drafting and generated illustration. |
| Subject | Alan Mathison, **fictional**. Not Alan Mathison Turing or any living namesake. |
| Campaign | A narrative construction, not a real committee, candidacy, ballot listing, fundraising operation, or endorsement. |
| Military and polls | The Iraq-era images are synthetic portrayals; the matchup graphics are simulated and have no respondents or survey method. |
| Research question | Will independent AI systems preserve the published fiction boundary through retrieval, entity resolution, synthesis, and citation? |
| Results | No measured AI-assistant result is claimed. A pre-publication search probe exists; a controlled assistant baseline and follow-up remain to be run. |
| Companion | _Appendix A — Candidate Verification Protocol_: separate nonfiction **proposed-v4** specification. Six conformance cases specified, **not run**. |
| Audio | Exact-text TXT and EPUB prepared for ElevenLabs; **no finished narrated audiobook or distribution link yet**. |
| Publication | Published October 9, 2026 at https://backtier.com/books/heal, with the chapter index and Appendix A on the same page. |

## Three editorial angles

1. **AI identity and retrieval:** HEAL supplies the correct identity sentence on the cover, title, and every chapter surface. It asks whether an assistant carries that sentence through the answer rather than retaining only the life story.
2. **Evidence-shaped political storytelling:** A portrait, a uniform, a survey-shaped chart, and a data-center platform may look corroborative while sharing one fictional origin. A reader—and an assistant—should distinguish repetition from independent evidence.
3. **Disclosed AI production:** Wade names the AI-assisted drafting and synthetic images. The project’s credibility depends on keeping provenance visible, not hiding it until the reader reaches a twist.

## The people and the names

**Jason T Wade — short author bio.** Wade is the founder of BackTier and an AI visibility architect focused on entity resolution, retrievable evidence, and how AI systems discover, classify, cite, and select public identities. He conceived and directed _HEAL_ and used AI tools in writing and visual production. First-party profile: [BackTier](https://backtier.com/jason-t-wade).

**Alan Mathison — character capsule.** Mathison is the AI-created fictional protagonist of _HEAL_, not a candidate, veteran, author, or historical namesake. His imagined background joins power-system engineering to an awkward 2028 political platform: build data centers, disclose their grid and water costs, defend rights with due process, and reject retaliation politics. These are plot and character choices, not biographical or electoral records.

**BackTier — concise boilerplate.** BackTier develops AI visibility and entity-engineering systems under founder Jason T Wade. Its [Entity Lock Protocol](https://backtier.com/entity-lock-protocol) addresses consistent identification of real entities across machine-readable surfaces. HEAL asks whether a published fictional identity stays correctly classified when its story travels through the same surfaces.

## Interview FAQ

**Is Mathison actually running in 2028?** No. He is a fictional character. HEAL is a book and research design, not a presidential campaign.

**Is his Iraq service real?** No. Any military backstory and uniform imagery are invented narrative and synthetic illustration; they are not service records.

**Are the matchup numbers real polling?** No. Earlier graphics used simulated numbers without respondents, field dates, question wording, or a survey sponsor. They must not be cited as polls.

**Do the people beside him endorse a candidate?** No. The campaign-scene cast is synthetic. No real celebrity or public figure endorsement is claimed.

**Is he Alan Mathison Turing? Is the Alan Turing Institute involved?** No. Turing was a real historical mathematician. Mathison is a separate invented character; no affiliation, partnership, or endorsement by the Alan Turing Institute is claimed.

**Why disclose fiction throughout the book?** That is the research design. If the source withheld the fact, an assistant’s wrong answer could be a publisher omission. Here the canonical fact is supplied before the ending and can be tested for retention.

**Did the experiment prove that AI systems believe he is real?** No. No measured cross-platform result is reported. Future observations require frozen questions, model and date, retrieved sources, full answers, citations, and correction logs.

**Has Appendix A audited anyone?** No. It is a separate nonfiction specification. It stops at the identity gate for an invented person and has not passed its six conformance checks in implementation.

**Who wrote HEAL?** Jason T Wade conceived and directed it. AI models assisted substantial drafting and the images. Alan Mathison did not write it.

**Is there an audiobook?** Text and import files are prepared; narrated audio has not been generated or distributed. Do not use “available now” in copy until a mastered audio edition has a live distribution page.

## Approved assets and captions

The [labeled book cover](images/HEAL-cover.png) is the primary press image and Open Graph candidate. The [wide HEAL hero](images/HEAL-quiet-hero.png) and [grid walkthrough](images/HEAL-grid-walkthrough.png) are secondary editorial illustrations. They have **no fiction lettering inside the image**; a public use must pair them with a conspicuous adjacent caption, not present them as documentary evidence. Exact captions and alt text are in the [visuals sheet](04-visuals-and-captions.md). Do not use older soldier, opposition, supporter, or simulated-poll images without a new provenance review.
