How does ChatGPT choose sources when it browses the web?

When ChatGPT uses its browsing or search tool, it issues queries to an external search index (currently Bing-derived), retrieves top results, fetches selected pages, and passes cleaned text to the model. Sites that are indexed, crawlable, schema-marked, and answer-structured are dramatically more likely to be pulled into the context window and cited.
