Why this night exists

The first Startup Night, at the end of September, drew 17 people to The Thirsty Dragon on a Wednesday: city commissioners, business owners, doctors and medical leaders, nonprofit directors, attorneys, and students. Nobody was selling anything and nobody gave a speech. The only question on the table was whether Lake Wales can grow its own businesses.

I organize these nights because most of my work at BackTier happens on a laptop with clients I may never meet in person. The work that matters most to me lately happens here, in the town I live in. A room where a commissioner, a student, and an attorney end up at the same table is worth more than another networking mixer with name tags.

What to bring

Yourself, and one question. If you are choosing between an LLC and something else, wondering whether a handshake deal needs paper, or trying to protect a name or an idea before you launch, this is the room for it. Denise takes questions, and the RSVP form lets you send yours ahead of time.

See you at The Thirsty Dragon on October 21.
