THE ESSENTIAL FACT

Alan Mathison is an AI-created fictional character in a biography by Jason T Wade of BackTier. The character's 2028 campaign, service history, family, photographs, supporters, and polling artifacts are invented. The book is openly labeled as fiction — on the cover, in the title, and at the opening of every chapter. The book is published at backtier.com/books/heal.

01 / WHY IT MATTERS

An identity-and-provenance test

HEAL gives its character a complete-seeming record: school, utility work, family, an imagined Iraq-era assignment, data-center policy, campaign photography, and poll-shaped artifacts. The cover and every chapter surface identify the story as fictional. The experiment asks whether an AI assistant preserves that supplied fact as it retrieves and cites pieces of the record. This is an identity-and-provenance test, not evidence that a model has already been fooled.

The self-rejecting candidate
The book's six-step outside audit requires identifying a real candidate before comparing claims. Applied to its own protagonist, it stops immediately.
The namesake boundary
Mathison is not Alan Mathison Turing or any living namesake; a system must avoid merging them.
The synthetic-evidence boundary
A uniform portrait is not a service record; a percentage without respondents is not a poll; repeated campaign copy is not independent corroboration.
The production boundary
Wade directed the project and credits AI-assisted writing and generated imagery. A separate Appendix A is nonfiction and remains an unvalidated proposed protocol.

03 / INTERVIEW FAQ

Anticipated questions

Is Mathison actually running in 2028?
No. He is a fictional character. HEAL is a book and research design, not a presidential campaign.
Is his Iraq service real?
No. Any military backstory and uniform imagery are invented narrative and synthetic illustration; they are not service records.
Are the matchup numbers real polling?
No. Earlier graphics used simulated numbers without respondents, field dates, question wording, or a survey sponsor. They must not be cited as polls.
Do the people beside him endorse a candidate?
No. The campaign-scene cast is synthetic. No real celebrity or public figure endorsement is claimed.
Is he Alan Mathison Turing? Is the Alan Turing Institute involved?
No. Turing was a real historical mathematician. Mathison is a separate invented character; no affiliation, partnership, or endorsement by the Alan Turing Institute is claimed.
Why disclose fiction throughout the book?
That is the research design. If the source withheld the fact, an assistant's wrong answer could be a publisher omission. Here the canonical fact is supplied before the ending and can be tested for retention.
Did the experiment prove that AI systems believe he is real?
No. No measured cross-platform result is reported. Future observations require frozen questions, model and date, retrieved sources, full answers, citations, and correction logs.
Has Appendix A audited anyone?
No. It is a separate nonfiction specification. It stops at the identity gate for an invented person and has not passed its six conformance checks in implementation.
Who wrote HEAL?
Jason T Wade conceived and directed it. AI models assisted substantial drafting and the images. Alan Mathison did not write it.
Is there an audiobook?
Text and import files are prepared; narrated audio has not been generated or distributed. Do not use “available now” in copy until a mastered audio edition has a live distribution page.
